Theme

In the spirit of Lynsey Addario’s work, which documents the struggles, suffering and resilience of women in conflict zones, the competition aims to highlight the roles and involvement of women in our society, and to offer a diverse portrayal of what it means to ‘be a woman’ in Luxembourg and the Greater Region in 2026.

Participants will submit a photo essay in the form of a series of five photographs providing an insight into daily life, professional, community, family, cultural and sporting commitments, work, conditions, struggles and/or emotions, as well as discrimination against women, whilst avoiding common clichés.

Developing the subject

- Developing an idea, a narrative, a ‘central theme’

- Reflecting on and, if necessary, conducting research into the chosen subject

- Contacting the person or people to be photographed

- Agreeing on a plan for the photo report (where, when, how?)

- Discussing issues of ethics, consent and fair representation.

Participants

Anyone living in Luxembourg or neighbouring regions may take part, whether they are amateurs or professionals. Participants should indicate

- their age

- whether they are school pupils or students

- whether they consider themselves beginners or advanced

- whether they are amateur or professional photographers

Each participant may submit a single series of 5 photos, which must clearly illustrate the competition theme. In the spirit of photojournalism, the images must form a series and tell a story.

Photos must be sent in high resolution (300 dpi), in JPEG or PNG format, to concours@mnr.lu. File sizes must not exceed 3 MB.

Prizes

The jury awards prizes and decides which series will be displayed in the exhibition and featured in the publication accompanying the competition.

- Jury Prize (3 prizes)

- Special Youth Prize (3 prizes)

- Special Mentions (at the jury’s discretion)

- People’s Choice Award

Exhibition

The exhibition will take place on Place de la Résistance in Esch-sur-Alzette and in the entrance hall of the museum.

The opening of the exhibition Through the Lens – Women in our Society and the presentation of the publication will take place on 10 October at 11.00 am on Place de la Résistance.

In addition to the exhibition, the photographs will be published in the Périodique de la Résistance, in Janette Magazine and on social media.
