ARISTIDES DE SOUSA MENDES
A PORTUGUESE CONSUL BETWEEN HUMAN CONSCIENCE AND REASON OF STATE
Two historical themes linking Luxembourg to Portugal during the Second World War are presented in this exhibition. Vilar Formoso, the Portuguese border town, and the Portuguese consul in Bordeaux, Aristides de Sousa Mendes, played a key role in rescuing tens of thousands of Jews from the clutches of the Nazis. Translated to French and German, this exhibition is a summary of the exhibitions previously shown at the National Archives and the neimënster.
